Facing Beloved - Thu, 15th Feb'24, Sat, 17th Feb'24 & Sun, 18th Feb'24

John Wubbenhorst is truly a World musician having grown up with western classical music and western jazz on flute. Then in his teens he became deeply involved in classical Indian music culminating with decades of instruction with Maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia. John has played with many greats East and West and is the leader of the East/West group "Facing East" which feature his original compositions that reflect his eclectic background. This program will feature some traditional Indian Ragas as well as some of John's unique originals. John will be accompanied by Rishabh Dhar on percussion playing the traditional packhawaj that is based in the ancient "Dhrupad" style of Indian music. Rishabh is unique in also playing this instrument in the modern "Khyal" tradition as well as other world music influences.

Blend is a curated performance series, focused on bringing unique art to the audiences. This edition features Parichay by Nikhil Ravi Parmar. Parichay takes you through the traditional presentation of the form, to the art-making tradition, showcasing the evolution of the form by the Kathakaar!!

Shyama - Written by Rabindranath Tagore - Sat, 17th Feb'24

'Shyama' a dance drama composed by Rabindranath Tagore, is a timeless masterpiece weaving different aspects of love in its most vibrant colors. The story talks about a court-dancer who falls in love with a foreign merchant, Bajrasen who is arrested by the royal guard on grounds of jewellery theft. What happens after this are extreme actions and decisions taken by Shyama, where she manipulates one of her admirers, Uttiya to take the blame on behalf of Bajrasen. Uttiya gives up his life to uphold his unrequited love, personifying the character of true love.

Roots - Mon, 19th Feb'24

Roots, a work in Bharatanatyam, is conceptualized and choreographed by Chitra Chandrasekhar Dasarathy and performed by Ameya Repertory from Bangalore. A chance encounter with the exposed roots of a large tree on the slopes of Nilgiri Hills triggered a thought! The visual was stunning. One could only gaze at it in wonder – the intricacy of design, the inherent power, growing resolutely along a hilly slope supporting a mammoth tree! Over time, this visual became the seed for a story to evolve, an imagination to take root – of life below the surface. Often, what is not visible or obvious is not in the realm of our active thoughts. This work seeks to imagine a story of the Root where it is not just a place of return or of belonging but an entire assemblage pulsating with life, growth, ideas, thoughts, striving and much more. For the choreographer and the dancers, roots become a metaphor for who we are, how we engage with the world around us, and what ways we find to struggle, survive, and live with contentment. We draw, assimilate, internalize, and spread the Sap of Life, just as the root does. The root is us, looking at ourselves.

The next half of the session will be observed where the hero is seeking the answers within himself. Its a relatable fictional story, enjoyed best with the eyes closed, and sitting relaxed.

Stories From The Mahabharata - Sat, 17th Feb'24

Few stories in the world are as intriguing as the Mahabharata, with its numerous plots and sub plots and characters having strengths and flaws in equal measure. 'Stories from the Mahabharata' is an endeavour by Aparna Jaishankar to recreate an interest in this epic.

Your Facts, My Facts - Fri, 16th Feb'24

Numbers as Political Allies (Cambridge University Press, 2023) analyses censuses of Jammu and Kashmir as public goods, collective self-portraits and symbols of modernity and enriches the debates on the political economy of statistics. The book tracks how censuses relate to their administrative, legal and political-economic contexts and captures their entire life cycle: from the political and administrative maneuvering at the preparatory stage to the partisan use of data in policymaking and public debates. The book draws on the history of the census in Jammu and Kashmir to show that data deficit is shaped by, and shapes, ethno-regional, communal, and scalar contests across different levels of governance. Further, comparing the experience of Jammu and Kashmir with that of other states, the book argues against resorting to legalistic and technocratic solutions to address the issue of data deficit and suggests possible measures to enhance public trust in the census. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

The production also delves into the deep empathy between Ismat and Manto's wife, Safia, and how they challenged Manto's provocative beliefs. RIP: Restlessness In Pieces - Sat, 17th Feb'24

RIP is a woman’s personal and political, narration full of satire and humour. An interactive solo, where a woman seeks her path, within her restricted life. She succeeds in convincing her man to take her along, to fulfill her deep-seated desire of travelling. The woman’s travel experiences and the chain of events that unfold in the forest directly target rudimentary patriarchal thinking. It takes the audience into a journey, also their own, of emotions, opinions and questioning, of every day and taken for granted conventionality of women’s lives, in individual, social, cultural and political milieus. RIP culminates on a high note, celebrating the women.

"Samsaradalli Sa Ni Da Pa" is a brand new production by Team Tadroopi. This play takes a comical dig on relationships and its honesty. It is an adaptation of K V Akshara's "Samsaradalli Sanidapa" written by 'Dario Fo', a renowned Italian playwright.

A man is shrinking. But he is delighted- he wants to shrink to the size of an ant and live in an anthill - a message to the corporate world that they need to pay attention to the mental health conditions of their employees. A run-in with Kabir's words (and music) makes him realize that he is shrinking due to other reasons, and to grow back, he must take a journey to get to the root of his troubles.

“Why English?” “Why Do I Speak English??” I have been asked this in an accusatory manner. I’ve been offended by it sometimes.. I’ve often wondered.. “What’s all the fuss about? Isn’t it just a language?” Recently, I decided to become a full-time actor in my country - India. Suddenly, I couldn’t find work, as I mainly spoke English, in a so called “non-English speaking nation.” Thus, started my journey to find answers. Using a perfect blend of physical theatre and the spoken word, I tell my personal story through my unique physical language. Come and watch a glimpse of my life! "Why English?" world premiered at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023, the world's largest performing arts festival, in the lovely city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Anurakthe - Tue, 20th Feb'24

Mythological stories, characters, events always haunt us. This may be because they are there all the time! There is the richness of the characters, the human nature, the lessons of life, the writing that is fused with life. Helps to unmask a man. Glimpses of justice, of righteousness, appear closer to life. The story of Sharmishte and Devayani is like this. From where the rift in marriage starts and till it tears, no psychology has been explained till today. Devayani comes as a lesson for many walks of life today. Anurakte is a heartwarming story of her devoting herself to Yayati, who is then deceived by the shyness of her girlfriend and maidservant, 'Anurakte'.

Turnaround - Wed, 21st Feb'24

Turnaround is a play set in the white-collar corporate world, a mysterious and intrigue-ridden space that is not fully understood. The play traverses the thought processes and actions of a senior and well-intended executive who expects to be dealt with fairly and objectively even if he refuses to suck-up to the most senior leadership of the company. The organisation’s response is as canny as it is funny – and the play shines the spotlight on the orchestrated actions of leaders across the globe to drive to an outcome; underscoring the utterly duplicitous conduct in so-called value(s)-driven large corporates.

Love in the Cholera of Time - Wed, 21st Feb'24 & Sat, 24th Feb'24 (Multiple Venue)

Love in the Cholera of Time is the story of 2 individuals who exist in different eras but fall in love nevertheless, in the in-betweens of time. This aberration puts the jobs and lives of 4 Time Gods in danger, whose job it is to keep time in its own place. This puts into motion strategies that could change the very nature of time. The play is a sharp & funny deliberation on love, loneliness, science and the industrialised weaponisation of time. Now whether the Time Gods' efforts to keep time understandable, linear and tear free or not, you'll just have to find out for yourself, won't you?
