By 2 Coffee - Fri, 22nd Sep'23
The play By2Coffee is about the conflicting feelings between a mother and her son set in a middle class family. A devout mother continually worries about her son's future and wishes for a speedy marriage who is now settled in United states. The son is on an annual customary visit to Bengaluru city and gets dragged into religious tenets of his mother. They both set out on a overnight drive/journey to a temple (native) for a pooja and that’s when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. With not many options left they both rest at a local hotel for a By 2 Coffee and catch up on all the missed conversations. While every conversation between them ends up with the mother requesting her son of marriage, he in-turn rebukes her theory of relationships, beliefs, customs and traditions only to find himself on the receiving end with a very practical reply to what suddenly seems to be an impractical questioning. The play deals with altering thoughts between two generations and how they both perceive life in their own way all served on a single platter called ‘Society’. The fun simple and satirical conversation leads up to many new unanswered questions, as they set out to find the answers between them they begin to decode new reality’s truths which forms the crux of the play.
Hunkaro - by Ujaagar Dramatic Association - Sat, 23rd Sep'23
‘Hunkaro’, is a performance piece devised just after the second wave of COVID 19. There was an urgent call within the theatre company to come on floor and construct a performance as a reflection of what the world has endured. The idea of the piece came into existence with a simple yet disturbing realisation that the lockdowns have reduced not only the attention span of people but also the capacity and need to listen. ‘Hunkaro', literally means a verbal affirmation, a response from the listener to the storyteller that she/he is listening, comprehending and is travelling with the story. Since Lockdown, there is an insatiable hunger to consume visuals and noise which leaves very little to no room for listening. And if there is no listening, Hunkaro cannot exist. But are we ready to listen? It is said that listening is an art, so just like many other art forms, is this one too losing it's beauty and necessity? But the world lives on hope and indeed, hope is the thread that binds this performance. With these thoughts, Hunkaro was born. The performance, while laying a strong emphasis on the beauty of Rajasthani language, does talk about the aesthetic value of languages in general, importance of the uttered word as well as the art of listening. The piece is replete with songs which come from the centennials old Manganiyar tradition but avoids musical instruments, once again underlining the spoken word.
Connectologues V 3.0 - The Phoenix - Sat, 23rd Sep'23
Connectologues is an abstract weave of interrelated monologues. It's a very unique style of presentation where multiple actors render their monologues which is interwoven with a larger story at the outset. This style of presentation combines skill around an actor traveling in the same physical space around different time zones of their characters. The unpredictable and non-linear nature of this presentation makes it a thrill to watch and perform. This is their third season of doing Connectologues. In this season, they are presenting and unraveling stories around hope and life - most of them centered around women - her journey, her struggles and more importantly, her triumph, in the society they live in - all presented in a contemporary fashion.

I Killed My Mother/ It Wasnt My Fault - Sat, 23rd Sep'23 & Sun, 24th Sep'23
Is it frivolous to be active on social media? Is it silly to dress up and take pictures of yourself? Is it cringe to relate more strongly to memes than literature? Is it a privilege to not want to work or have a career? Is it shameful to talk back to your parents? Is it slutty to desire? Is it un-feminist to not help your mother around the house? Is it lazy to wake up late everyday? Is it desperation when you want to be invited to a party? Is it a mental illness when you just don’t like yourself? And is it absolutely crazy to have so many thoughts all the time, all at once? Or is it just everyday life for countless young women? This is a play for and by young wayward women, inquisitive and conscious of their privilege in society, people addicted to their phones, and anyone who finds themselves caught between the slippery planes of the online portal between their own reality and the world beyond.
Avva Nanavva - Tue, 26th Sep'23
Play narrates about the importance of Mother, Nature and about Human Relationship.
Tempest - Wed, 27th Sep'23
Tempest was written by the great playwright William Shakespeare in 1610-1611 and is believed to be his last play. His inspiration from nature, depiction of its fury, calmness and relating this trait to human turmoil and relationship is truly marvellous. Though this play has all the qualities to be called as one of Shakespeare’s romantic comedies the approach in which each character in the play tries to find his own self and personality in this world makes it that much more special.
