Marham : Fundraiser - Fri, 3rd Nov'23

The whole of artist proceeds will be directed to the Baitulmaal Foundation, a non-profit organisation whose field workers inside Gaza are among the few who have accepted the risk of distributing life-saving aid during the crisis. The event is unpolitical in nature and no political discussions will be entertained.

The 'Nrityanidhi Baithak' isn't merely a wondrous experience of Kathak but also a lingering sensation of magnificence that only comes through the enchantment of 'Nrityanidhi Magic'! At Nrityanidhi, an event is treated as an opportunity to travel into the sublime aspects of artistic expression. An opportunity to take deeper breaths, unwind, and acknowledge the true meaning of life. None of this, however, is the main goal. The goal is simply to put up a great performance. Nati Binodini by SmaranniK - Fri, 3rd Nov'23

The play revolves around the life of the famous South Asian actress, Binodini Dasi (1862–1941), also known as Nati Binodini, who, born to prostitution, started her career as a courtesan and, at twelve, played her first serious drama role. Later, she started performing in Calcutta's National Theatre, under the mentorship of its founder, Girish Chandra Ghosh. As the play moves forward, introducing several acquaintances of Binodini, it slowly takes a steep turn and brings into light the sacrifice, pain, betrayal, and misfortune of the famous actress. Although she was referred to as the ‘Flower of the Native Stage’ and ‘Moon of the Star Theatre’, the drama brings in the truth of Binodini’s life and shows how the mentally devastated actress left the stage at the age of 25. Blessed by the saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Binodini tried to attain wisdom and peace, which finally gave the play a new perception.

Lokada Olahorage - Sat, 4th Nov'23

This play is a direct discussion of the questions Tagore himself had about Western culture and the revolts against it in early 1910's. As a symbol of both these thoughts, the two main characters of this play, Siddhartha as an admirer of Western thought, and Indrajit as an opponent of that culture, the ups and downs of an innocent girl named Sharade, who is caught between them, is the core of this play. The conflicts of these two thoughts that enter into the family, where everything seemed to be romantic, are revealed through the play and how they break up not only that family but also the surrounding society becomes the core issue. This play tries to convey that only inclusive minds can build a healthy society.
