Music of the Charkha is a creative expression, in the idiom and grammar of Hindustani classical music, of Rama’s personal journey over the last several years to deeply explore Gandhiji’s 11 Vows as observances of a spiritually grounded life in the immortal words of our saints, rishis and philosophers such as Tulsidas, Basavanna, and with verses from the Mundaka Upanishad, Kabir Das and Baba Bulleh Shah.

Virodhābhāsa - Fri, 7th Apr’23
“Form is Emptiness. Emptiness is Form,” says the Buddhist Heart Sutra speaking of the paradox that lies at the core of all phenomena. Indeed, the world we inhabit is itself a paradox for it is both real and an appearance: Maya. And so, to better appreciate this world, one needs to look more deeply at what seems like opposites or contradictions. A personal tragedy that held within it both sadness and peace led the artist to consider more deeply this idea of Paradox. As one lived through those difficult days, the thinking about the paradox began to transform and found expression in dance.

Masterclass with Joszef Trefeli - Sat, 8th Apr’23
In this masterclass, Trefeli explores ways of sharing that must be personalized and very specific to each pair of individuals. The first step is about clarifying idiosyncrasies that make each person unique before one can research how to transform themselves to allow space for the other. The resulting dialogue should showcase how each pairing creates a union greater than the sum of their individual parts.

Her poems, which were written centuries ago, continue to inspire and empower women today to fight for their rights and challenge patriarchal norms and stereotypes.
