Ninda to Ananda - Fri, 12th May’23

Tyagaraja, one among the musical Trinity has expressed a host of emotions in his various compositions. These are indicative of some events and milestones in his life, his inner feelings, and more. This conceptualization, by Vinay Varanasi and Srivathsan S explores a spectrum of emotions that arose in his journey through narrative and music. From spiteful remarks to one’s deity, to pining like a lover, the journey will focus on milestones covering themes agony, angst, frustration to bliss and contentment.

First Light - Sun, 14th May’23

The First Light concert and conversation series will present young Hindustani and Carnatic musicians in an intimate and informal setting. They will attempt to engage with their respective lineages and the traditional as well as specially the lesser performed material they have received, in distinctive ways. The musicians are encouraged to present a repertoire that reflects their long years of training, core aesthetic influences and values as well as their individual outlooks and interpretation.

In this duet movement piece, choreographer emphasizes on the transformation of a personality from one to another. What is this new self? Is it an add on to the old pattern or a breakaway into something new? The choreographer continues to explore the shift between reality and illusion. What does the body sense and feel and how does it react through this unending loop between creation of a new pattern, destruction of it and recreation of another; Or is it a pattern at all?

Rakshasa Tangadi’ written by Girish Karnad is a slice of Indian history and a gem of a spectacle that captures the battle between Deccan Sultans of the Bahamani Kingdom and the Vijayanagara Empire in the year 1565 which had an impact on the political and cultural map of India. This play which indulges in politics, ego, and war strategies is precisely stitched by the characters having diverse elements and their motive to surpass each other.
